Anita Lynn (Van Dam) Ehlers

Anita Lynn Ehlers (nee Van Dam), age 60, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 with her loving family by her side.

Anita had an infectious smile and spirit that made all feel welcome and loved in her presence.  She spent her life in service of others, working as an occupational therapist in District 220, volunteering for causes she believed in and advocating for social justice.  She was well known in Barrington for her outgoing personality and kindness.  She continued to spread hope, travel and spend time with family and friends after her diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer in 2018. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.

Anita is survived by her beloved husband, Gregg Ehlers; loving children, Lindsay (Kurt) Mattes (nee Burke) of Barrington, IL and Julia Burke of Chicago, IL; cherished granddaughter, Annette “Annie” Mattes; parents, Mary (Ralph) Bicknell and Harvey (Judy) Van Dam; and siblings, David (Irma) Van Dam, Doug (Abigail) Van Dam, Martin Van Dam, and Barbara (Dave) Sauter (nee Van Dam).

A memorial service for Anita will be held at 4pm on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at St. Paul United Church of Christ 401 East Main St, Barrington, IL 60010.  Visitation will begin at 2pm prior to the service.
