Carol Joan Covers

Carol “Joan” Covers, 84, of Barrington, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on June 20, 2022. She was born on November 30, 1937 in Chicago to the late Edward and Rose Zientara.

On June 21, 1958, Joan was united in marriage to Edward Covers in Niles; they have 5 sons, and further blessed with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. They made Barrington their home for over 50 years, but also enjoyed wintering in Lake Okeechobee, FL and spending time at their Christmas Tree farm in Westfield, WI.

Joan and Ed were the owners and operators for Covers Christmas Trees for over 50 years. Joan was a very active member of St. Anne’s Church, enjoyed playing volleyball and softball, card games, Bingo, roller skating and square dancing. Above all, Joan loved being a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her beloved husband, Joan is survived by her loving sons, Jim (Jean), Ken (Chip Cheatham), Bill (Kathy), Bob (Wendy) and Ron (Carla); cherished grandchildren, James Covers, Kelly (Tyler) Breunig, Katey (Dustin) Bittner, Jenny (Seth) Lange, Brett Covers, Brittany (Bob) O’Hagan, Kelsey (Kyle) Milborn, Emilee, Ethan, Tayler, Austin and Tyler Covers; precious great-grandchildren, Ryder, Tenley, Piper, Camden, Hudson, Madden, Jameson, Beckett, Oliver, Eleanor, Brody and Cal; her siblings, Betty Skonieczny and Bob (Maureen) Zientara; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved aunt and uncle Evelyn and William Murtaugh; and by her brother-in-law, Lou Skonieczny.

Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2022 from 9 AM until the 10:30 AM funeral mass at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela Sts.), Barrington, IL 60010. Interment will be private.
