In loving memory of our wonderful father, John H. Suchy, age 87, of Barrington
Hills, IL who passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday,
February 19, 2022.
John was born in Barrington Hills, IL on February 12, 1935 to Milo and Violet
(Kreuger) Suchy. He was born and raised on the family farm to which he acquired
in later years. John was known by those who knew him best for always having his
talking points ready and being able to carry on a conversation with anyone willing
to sit and discuss a topic or hear a detailed story. He loved his family and always
looked forward to home cooked meals and time spent with his grandkids.
From 1961 - 1965, John served in the The United States Army Quartermaster
Corps at Fort Lee, Virginia. In 1961, he was shipped over to Germany during the
Berlin Crisis. He was Honorably Discharged on September 30, 1965.
Around 1971 John established his business, Suchy Construction. He was known by
many for his innate ability to transform the earth into beautiful landscape works of
art. During the later portion of his career, John focused on wetland restoration
establishing Back Track Wildlife Habitat. He contributed a large portion of his life
to this cause and is admired for his quality work at locations like Flint Creek
Savannah (Citizens for Conservation), McGraw Wildlife and the Chain O’Lakes.
Dad’s love for the earth & wildlife as well as his homestead became his strongest
passion in life: planting a variety of trees, setting beautiful boulders with intricate
berms, digging ponds and cutting in trails was a small example of what he did for
several area families, conservation organizations and extensively on his own
beloved property for his family and friends to enjoy.
John was an avid outdoorsman, his deep love for the outdoors speared his many
adventures with camping, hunting, fishing or hiking the countryside. He made sure
to take his kids on numerous trips over the years including several fishing trips be
it in his boat, ice fishing or netting for smelt. John loved animals and through the
years spent time both hunting with his dogs and competing at field trials (one of
which he competed against John Olin’s trainer, T.W. “Cotton” Pershall and his dog,
King Buck). As kids, we grew up acquiring his love for the outdoors. We were
blessed to spend time working with him, going on vacations, and family gatherings
which were so very important to all of us.
Survivors include his three children Mark (DeAnn) F. Suchy, Robin (Lloyd)) L.
Reints, Dawn (Matthew) R. McCoy, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Violet (Kreuger) Suchy, his
brothers, Donald Suchy, Thomas Suchy and his children’s mother, Carol J.
LeVeque.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. John will be greatly missed by
many as being known for his sincere, genuine character. He touched the lives of
countless individuals and left his mark on numerous settings be it private property
or public land. We find peace in knowing Dad is embraced in God’s eternal love
now as he holds a special place in our hearts forever. Thank you Dad for all you
did for your family, your friends and this world - you were truly a great man!
