Marion Janice Kangas

The funeral service for Marion Kangas (nee Thompson), 84, of Deer Park, formerly of Chicago, will be held privately at 11 am on Monday, December 28.  Friends of the family are invited to participate virtually, please contact a family member for a link. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

Marion was born May 29, 1936 to the late Tieman and Sigrid (nee Anderson) Thompson. She passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020 in Barrington.  Marion was a homemaker, she attended Quentin Bible Church in Lake Zurich. She enjoyed church, crossword puzzles, music, decorating and playing the piano. She was very proud of her Norwegian Heritage and most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Matthew Kangas, whom she married August 8, 1959 in Chicago; their four children, Lynn Kangas, Lori Kangas, Paul (Kristen) Kangas and Karin (Nicholas) Garite; Grandchildren, Amanda (Joseph) Basgal, David (Mindy) Bond, Amber (Andrew) Nelson, Benjamin Kangas, Hannah, (Eli) Tyler, Luke Kangas, Jack Garite, Evie Kangas, Abigail Bond and Stephanie Garite; great-grandchildren, Logan, Noah, Esther, Grant, Ruby, Henry and Micah; a sister, Barbara Tonnesen and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with her parents, she is preceeded in death by her brother, Howard Thompson and brother-in-law, Harold Tonnesen.
