Robert Glenn “Bob” Allen of Barrington, Illinois b. January 7 1941 (Omaha, NE), d. February 22, 2022.

Beloved husband of Audrey Ann Mascitti; dear brother of Judith Gaye Allen (Gary Smedley) of Colorado Springs, CO; loving son of George Aaron Allen and Glenna Maude “Pat” Hagness; dear father of John Martin Allen of Mesa, AZ and Michael Eric Allen (Jennifer); dear step-father of Rae Ann Hack (Patrick Nolan) of Deer Park, IL and James Ernest “Jim” Hack (carole Lynn Orbeson) of Kildeer, IL; dear grandfather of Joseph Patrick “joe” Nolan, Jakob Michael “jake Nolan, Daniel Robert Nolan, James Christian Hack, Emily Joy Hack and Ryan Michael Hack; and dear brother-in-law of Ernest “Ernie” mascitti (nancy) of Oceanside, CA.

A visitation for Robert will be held from 4pm until the time of service at 6:30 pm on Saturday February 26, 2022 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. A burial will take place at a later date.

Following his birth on January 7, 1941, in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska, Bob lived with his parents at Fort Crook, Nebraska, where his father was in the United States Army.  They moved during World War II to Falls Church, Virginia; Denton, Texas; and Dallas, Texas.

Bob lived briefly with his mother and sister in Donnellson, Montgomery County, Illinois, while their house was being built at 508 Ashbury Court in Webster Groves, St. Louis County, Missouri (a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri).

He went to Washington Park and Edgar Road grade schools where he was President of his 6th grade class and Editor of the school paper.  Bob played softball, mainly as a pitcher.  In one game, he recorded 17 strike-outs, but the team lost 25 to 0.  He played center field for the Chapman Chips, a champion baseball team.

Bob won varsity letters in tennis at Webster Groves High School where he did particularly well in his math classes.

He received a B.A. in Political Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kansas - Lawrence and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.  He was Corresponding Secretary and Summer Rush Chairman of his fraternity and he was very active in campus politics - Vox Populi Party.  He then attended the University of Texas Law School in Austin, Texas.  While attending law school he worked as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service.  After his marriage to his first wife, Linka Kathlee “kathy” Hallowell, they lived in Austin, Texas and attended school.

Bob received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas - Austin in 1968, passed the State of Texas Bar Exam and then joined Container Corporation of America in their Industrial Relations Department.  His office was on the 53rd floor of the First National Bank building in downtown Chicago.  He dealt with the company’s labor unions for the next six years.  He then held the positions of Corporate Manager - EEO, Regional Employee Relations Manager, Group Employee Relations Manager and Manager of Compensation.  He left CCA in 1986 and joined a consulting firm, Mainstream Access, which focused on outplacement services.  His client companies included AT&T, General Motors, Chrysler, Baxter Healthcare, Kraft Foods and Peat Marwick Main.

In 1986, Bob married his second wife, Audrey Anne Mascitie Hack Allen.  They initially lived in Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois, where Bob was on the Community Relations Commission, coached youth soccer and baseball, and was President of the Shetland Baseball League.

In 1989, Bob joined Baxter Healthcare Corporation focusing on its corporate-wide restructuring.  He then moved to the Baxter Institute for Training and Development where he directed training world-wide and managed a consulting practice that focused on strategic planning, change management and leadership.  In addition to his managerial duties, he facilitated a number of courses including Leadership Essentials, Managing Change and Presentation Skills.

He has been on the Board of Directors of the Private Industry Council of Northern Cook county, the International Association of Career Management Professionals (Chicago Chapter Co-Founder and President), the Illinois State Genealogical Society (Second Vice-President and Secretary), the Lake County, IL Genealogical Society, the Northern Illinois Civil War roundtable (Secretary) and the institute for Continued Learning - Roosevelt University, Schaumburg, Illinois (President, Secretary and Program Development Co-Chair).

Bob lived in Chicago (500 E. 33rd Street, Apt. 1601), Oak Park (419 N Elmwood), Bloomingdale (155 St. Francis Court), Kildeer, IL (22470 North Newberry Court) and Barrington, IL.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and took many international trips through his retirement years.  He enjoyed golf, sports of all kinds, time with his family, current affairs,history, trivia, blackjack, Texas hold’em, gardening and was a life-long learner.

After his retirement in 1998, Bob volunteered to do community work through Cross-Cultural Solutions as Villa El Salvador, a sprawling shanty town south of LIma, Peru.  While there, he spearheaded outreach efforts including the creation of a women’s volleyball league and tournament.

With friend Jim Kacena, he co-led many study groups at the institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University, Schaumburg, IL including the History of Illinois, Secret Societies, the 20th Century, INesting, Genealogy.

Bob was a dedicated genealogical researcher who believed that “Ancestry carries an imperative obligation to live so that it may not be said ‘the best part of one's' family tree is under the ground’.”

He and his sister Judy, owned a family home in the Black Hills of South Dakota near Keystone.  The cabin was built by their paternal grandparents, Robert and Sadie Hawkins Allen in the 1930s.

Bob co-authored a book entitled “Key Questions in Career Counseling”.
