Sara Elwood Cook was born August 27, 1953 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Thomas and Alice (nee Colgan) Elwood. She died suddenly on January 15, 2022 at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.
She received a B.A. degree in political science and social work from the University of Iowa. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She clerked for the Honorable Mark McCormick of the Iowa Supreme Court. For almost 40 years she practiced law at McKenna Storer where she had been managing partner since 2010.
Sara enjoyed her distinguished career, but nothing surpassed her devotion to family, friends, and fun. An avid reader, she loved gardening, puzzles, writing and painting. A devout Catholic, she participated in promoting charitable causes and social justice.
Sara is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Richard Cook; her children, Thomas (Kim), fraternal twins, Joe (Kelly), and Dan (Amanda), identical twins Bill and Jim; her grandchildren, Charlie, RJ, Maggie, and Camden; her sister, Jane Femal; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sherry Healy; brother-in-law, Patrick Healy; brother-in-law, Michael Femal; mother-in-law, Mary Cook; and father-in-law, Dick Cook.
Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2022, from 3pm until 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Saturday, January 22, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 2918 Country Club Rd., Woodstock.
