Abigail Hollister,76, of Barrington, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, December 23,2011, in Barrington.
She was born on November 18,1935, to Silas and Catherine Geraldine Cartland, in Evanston.
Abigail is survived by her loving children, Elisabeth (Warren) Sandberg, Sarah (Mark) Eisen, and Julie (Jeffrey) Golden; grandchildren, Aiden and Liliana Sandberg, James, Molly, Samuel, and Emma Eisen, Paige, John, and Luke Golden; sisters, Mary Jones, and Catherine (Romeo) Mura; brothers, John (Paula) Cartland, and Silas (Barbara) Cartland; sister-in-law, Jeanette Dedmond, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Hollister and her parents.
As a young woman, Abi worked as a nurse, a preschool teacher, and as a professional figure skater with the Ice Capades. She achieved her dream of owning a horse farm, and then met and married Jim. Her devotion, beyond that to her family, was to animals (in sickness and in health!). She remained an active, vibrant member of her community of friends until the end.
Visitation will be held from 4-7, Wednesday, December 28,2011, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington IL.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10a.m., Thursday, December 30,2011, at St. Francis de Sales, 135 South, Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, with visitation held one hour before the service at church.
Burial will be private in White Memorial Cemetery, Barrington.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Delta Society Human-Animal Health Connection, www.delta society.org.
