Aileen Greenberg

July 7, 1922 — April 25, 2013

Aileen Kathryn Marr Greenberg (nee Chadwick), born July 7, 1922, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2013, in Barrington, IL.
Aileen, known to her friends as Chad, was born in Haverhill, MA, attended Bradford Junior College and the University of Massachusetts. She married Laurence Marr and moved to Spokane, Washington where she was very active in St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral where she was president of the Bishops Guild. Chad was also involved with many civic activities including the Visiting Nurses Organization.
Chad was a model at the Crescent Department store, in Spokane, where she started a Christmas gift boutique, which led to her becoming one of the first female store managers for Grayson Robinson's department store. She was hired by the Bon Marche department store to be a dress buyer and then became the sportswear buyer for all 65 stores, headquartered in Seattle. Chad was a pioneer in her industry as the first woman in many positions.
In addition to her passion for her family and the fashion industry, Chad was an avid traveler. After retirement, she travelled to over 100 countries with her family, friends and grandsons. She was also a gourmet chef, reveling in every opportunity to make an enormous feast for her family, grandsons, and multitudes of others who ‘happened’ to show whenever she was in the kitchen. Chad was at her happiest sitting around a big table telling stories with great food, great wine and we know heaven is happy to have her to liven things up a little bit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Bradstreet Chadwick and Owena Wallace James; daughter, Elaine; husband, Laurence Marr, and second husband, Sherwin Greenberg.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorrit Marr Bern; stepson, Pete (Carrie Harwood) Greenberg; stepdaughter, Jill (Bill) Wilkins; three grandsons, Chadwick (Kara) Bern, Collier (Jessica) Bern, and Tyler Bern; step granddaughter, Barbara Greenberg; step grandson, Ted Greenberg; three beautiful great-granddaughters, Hayden, Avery and Penelope Bern; and many cousins and family friends.
Memorial service will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave., Barrington, IL 60010, where Father Patrick Raymond will be officiating.

Burial will be held privately in West Boxford, Massachusetts, in the Chadwick Family plot.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, www.cff.org.
