Aileen Marie McElhinney, 95, of Oakwood Hills, IL, Naples, FL, and recently of Kingston, TN was born December 27, 1923 in Green Castle, MO to Ivan and Pearl (nee Hall) Hammons. She passed away peacefully January 11, 2019.
Aileen received her Bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University and enjoyed her career as a teacher and bookkeeper. She transitioned her role to the full devotion of raising her children as a homemaker, and was a devout member of the Barrington Presbyterian Church, and Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church of Naples, FL. She was raised working on a farm, and had a passion for traveling, reading, and being outdoors. As an avid golfer at the Biltmore Country Club of North Barrington, and the Vineyards Country Club of Naples Florida, she loved spending time with family and friends.
Aileen was united in marriage on February 14, 1953 to Leonard “Mac” McElhinney. They celebrated 62 wonderful years until his passing in 2016.
Aileen will be deeply missed by her children, Michael (Jeanette) McElhinney of Kingston, TN; Thomas (Karen) McElhinney of Austin, TX and Ann Marie (James) Hess of Crystal Lake, IL; grandchildren, Adam, Kathryn, Amelia, Victoria McElhinney, Spencer and Quentin Hess; and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Alice Mabry of Kirksville, MO, and many close friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 pm until 8:30 pm, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Davenport Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook), Barrington, IL 60010. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Windridge Cemetery in Cary.
