Alan Richard Levitt passed away peacefully after a courageous fight with leukemia on March 7, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 59. Alan is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Angie Levitt; children, Chris Angelo (Amanda); Matt Levitt (Sara); Ariel Levitt; grandchildren, Braxton Angelo, Meredith Angelo, Charlie-Mae Angelo, Sawyer Angelo; Lior Levitt; father, Jack Levitt; sister, Laurie Winkelman (Gary); brothers, David Levitt (Laurie); Joel Levitt (Cindy); father-in-law, Jesse Garcia; sister-in-law, Sue Garcia; brother-in-law, Jesse Garcia (Judy) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta “Bobbi” Levitt and mother-in-law, Rita Garcia.
Alan was born on May 5, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1978. He attended several colleges before graduating from The University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. Alan ran his own freelance communications business for a decade and eventually retired as Vice President, Communications and Market Analysis of the US Dairy Export Council.
Alan was a great listener, always open and empathetic to anyone who wanted to talk. His friends and family will remember his quirky sense of humor, relentless positivity, and sharp memory.
Together, Alan and Angie built a beautiful life in Crystal Lake, Illinois. They were active members of McHenry County Jewish Congregation, where they met many lifelong friends and celebrated religious milestones. Together, they loved to travel, picnic on the beach, go to the movies, see live music, and celebrate special occasions with family. Alan was an avid reader, skilled writer, sports fan, and outdoor enthusiast. He could often be found hiking in Veteran Acres Park or kayaking at Three Oaks Recreation Area. Everyone knew that Alan got the most enjoyment in life out of watching his kids and grandkids grow. His life revolved around family.
A burial will be held privately with a public memorial service to be scheduled at a later date.
