Alberta Kramper

Alberta Catherine Mank Kramper, 97, of Danville, IL passed away peacefully on November 15, 2015 in Barrington. She was born on June 18, 1918, to Henry and Barbara Mank in New Baden, Illinois.

Having received her teacher certificate from Southern Illinois University in 1938, that fall she began her teaching career at Moehring School, near Okawville, in a one room schoolhouse. This school is now a historic building in Washington County. She married Virgil on August 17, 1943 and accompanied him to many air bases in the Midwest while he served in the Army Air Force during WWII. She taught at St. Mary’s School in Westville, IL from 1959 until 1972. From 1972 until 1984 she was a Title One reading teacher in Jamaica Township. She retired in 1984. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education from Eastern Illinois University 1976 and her Masters of Education Degree from the University of Illinois in 1982. She was a member and past president of the Gamma Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honorary society of women educators. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society of educators. She was an organizer and first president of Vermillion Valley Reading Council. She was a founding member of the Illinois Reading Council which became the International Reading Association.

Alberta is survived by her two sons, Brian (Cheryl) Kramper of Crystal Lake and Bruce (Andrea) Kramper of North Barrington; grandchildren, Sharon Kramper of Montgomery and Jeremiah (Rebecca) Kramper of Rockton; one great-granddaughter; niece, Janice (Jack) Faust and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Virgil Kramper; brother Harold (Arleen) Mank; and sister, Berdelle (Robert) Hemann.

Memorial service will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela Streets) Barrington, IL 60010 on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11 AM. Memorial visitation will be an hour prior. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Danville, Il to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Children’s Hospital of St. Louis, Faust Family Endowment Fund, 6 Kingsley Ct., Glen Carbon, IL 62034 would be appreciated.
