Alexandra Susan Petit, 32, of Crystal Lake passed away Friday, June 1, at her home. She was born on July 31, 1985 in Hoffman Estates to Brian and Elizabeth (Redmond) Petit.
Alexandra graduated from Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake and attended McHenry County College where she became certified in Child Care; she continued her child development education at MCC. After becoming certified, Alexandra worked for Miss Ruth’s in Cary. In her younger years, she worked at Country Donuts and Around-the-Clock. During her high school years, she worked as an activities assistant at Crystal Pines Rehab.
She loved the holidays, especially Halloween. She worked all year round personalizing gifts to give to the trick-or-treaters, each year looking forward to breaking the previous year’s number. She loved Christmas and all holidays with her family at Grandma Redmond’s house; she always wanted her family and community in her life – this meant the world to her. She loved vacations with her Grandpa Jack and Mom in Door County and also the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. Alexandra liked being with Grandpa Jack and hearing about his life while they were working at the Tooties Day, Donut Day, Bell ringing for the Salvation Army, and volunteering at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Alexandra said her mother had the best smile when they played volleyball together in the pool, especially when the side of the pool broke down and they took the ride of their lives. Recently, when it became difficult getting around, she enjoyed riding her new bike. Alexandra loved children and always wanted to be a teacher; she looked forward to having her own family and many children. She never stopped loving her brother, Brian Petit.
Her mother, Elizabeth, will miss her girl, her best friend and will miss seeing her face every day. Alexandra would always ask her everyday how her day was and if she had any funny stories to tell. Elizabeth had the privilege of having this great soul and enormous heart in her life for such a short time. They made many plans for the future and Elizabeth was looking forward to sharing her retirement with Alexandra.
Alexandra talked about being there to hold Mom’s hand when it was time to go; Elizabeth didn’t expect to be holding Alexandra’s hand.
“I am alone and I am lonely, but if I were asked to decide between being the cause for sorrow or accepting the sorrow of loss, which would I select? I am here to go on, to carry the legacy of my daughter, Alexandra, into the days ahead, to make bright my loved ones memory, to see it as a fire from which I can forge a future.” To Alexandra, my loving and dearest daughter.
Alexandra is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Petit; her brother, Brian Petit; her grandfather, John “Jack” Redmond; aunts and uncles, Mike Redmond and Beth Keene, Tom and Mary Redmond, John John and Christine Redmond, Howard and Michelle Maloney, Pam Rowen, Linda Petit, and Anita Briscoe; cousins, Georgia and Ellis Redmond, Nicholas, Nathan, and Ashley Redmond, Erin Maloney, Jackie and Patrick Rowan, Samuel and Alexis Redmond, and Jennifer and David Rowan; and great aunts Carol Gillespie and Patricia Land.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley Petit; her father, Brian Petit; grandparents, Joan Redmond and Harold and Doris Petit; great grandparents, Agnes Pinn and Mary Redmond; uncle Ted Petit; cousins, Adam Redmond, Kevin Maloney, and Bobby Rowan; and many other members of the Petersen, Carroll, Redmond, Pinn, McGovern, and O’Connell families.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 9:30am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake, Il. Burial is to follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, IL.
