Alfred K. Kenyon, 87, died unexpectedly on January 19, 2022, of natural causes. He was born December 6, 1934, in Jersey City, NJ, the son of Joseph Kenyon and Alma (Carlson) Kenyon.
Alfred graduated high school from Worcester High School, NY, class of 1952. Following graduation Alfred served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in both Prince George, British Columbia, and San Rafael, CA. During this time, he married his wife of 67 years, Mary Joyce (Charette) Kenyon. Alfred was honorably discharged from the armed services in 1961.
Upon discharge, Alfred completed his bachelor’s degree while beginning his career at Kemper Insurance. Alfred rapidly advanced through the career ranks of Kemper Insurance and retired as the CEO, President and Chief Operating Officer of Kemper Insurance during 1996. In retirement, Alfred split his time between Palm Desert, CA, Lake Geneva, WI, and North Barrington, IL with friends, family, and many former business colleagues.
Alfred’s interests included aviation, piloting his personal aircraft, military history, travel, golf, and providing wisdom to his grandchildren. He was also the Northwest Illinois leader of the Civil Air Patrol. Alfred always will be remembered as a person who was extremely generous to all and was always the first to support family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph, and brothers, Albert, Joseph Jr, and Robert.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Mary Joyce; son, David (Barbara); daughter-in-law, Candace; grandchildren, Jason (Jane), Teresa (Bruce) Trey and Cole; a great grandchild, Jordan; and numerous loving siblings, nephews, and nieces.
Alfred specifically requested no service of remembrance or interment. Those who wish to remember Alfred in a special way, may make a gift to the Wounded Warriors Project in honor or memory of Alfred.
