Alison Carol Palsgrove, 51, of Mount Prospect and formerly of Crystal Lake, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on October 12, 2024.
Alison was born August 14, 1973, in Lincoln, Nebraska and entered into the foster system at the age of three after undergoing domestic mistreatment. At that time, we welcomed her into our family and after four years, we were able to officially adopt her. Overcoming a difficult beginning, she blossomed. She participated in sports through Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA), went to school and graduated from CLCHS in 1993.
After she graduated, Alison wanted to be more independent and move to a group home. She lived in Sycamore House (part of Search, Inc.) in Mount Prospect over 20 years, held several jobs in the community, continued to play basketball through special recreation, was a member of The Orchard Evangelical Free Church, loved to spend time with her friends, and helped her family schedule her birthday parties months in advance. Her determination in completing anything was unmatched.
She was an avid Chicago Bulls fan, loved to collect jewelry, loved to read, and loved to be the first phone call on everyone’s birthday. More recently, she developed a love of cooking, attended culinary classes at Harper College and she has a hand decorated recipe box for her treasured recipes. She also exhibited and sold some of her paintings.
Alison was preceded in death by her father, Michael Palsgrove, and her foster sister, Sandra Looper Patterson.
She is survived by the love of her life, Jack Sluyk; her mother, Eileen Palsgrove; her siblings, David (Julie) Palsgrove, Philip (Sara) Palsgrove, & Sharon (Jerry) Larsen; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews (whom she loved very much), aunts, uncles and cousins.
Interment will be private at Union Cemetery in Crystal Lake.
The memorial service will take place at 2pm on Thursday, October 17, at the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, 575 E Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake.
Memorials can be donated to Search, Inc at https://www.search-inc.org.
