Alma Gene Guenther

Alma Gene Guenther (nee Bauer), 88, of Barrington, Illinois was born on May 14, 1930 in Mineola, New York and passed away on July 29, 2018 in Barrington, Illinois.

Alma Gene was a 1951 graduate of Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH, with a B.A. in Education. From 1951 to 1959 she taught third and fourth grade in Pittsburgh and Fort Wayne in Indiana. She was passionate about education all her life – she never stopped learning and teaching even after she retired. Her children and grandchildren benefited greatly from her teaching skills.

Alma Gene was very active in the Barrington area, served as the director of “Meals on Wheels” and volunteered with many other organizations.  She was the loving wife of Harold Guenther for 65 years; beloved mother of Jan (Brian) Knutson of Minnetrista, MN; Jeff (Annette) Guenther of Naperville, IL; Jacqueline (Tri) Guenther-Nguyen of Barrington, IL; cherished grandmother of Hanna (Joe Gephart) Guenther, Anders Knutson, Morgan Nguyen, Connor Knutson, Mia Nguyen, Annika Guenther and Nathan Nguyen; adored great-grandmother of Maja Gephart.

Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, August 12 from 2:00pm until the time of her memorial service at 4:00pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JourneyCare Foundation, www.journeycare.org/donate.
