Andrew Kostick

Barrington, Illinois,Services for Andrew F. Kostick, 81, a resident of Barrington since 1960 will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Community Church of Barrington, 407 S. Grove Ave., Barrington, 60010. The Reverend Zina Jacque will officiate. Born June 19, 1929 in Chicago, he passed away October 14, 2010 at home. Andy graduated in 1957 from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science and received his Masters from Southern IL University in 1960. He was a physical education teacher at Barrington High School from 1960 when he started the gymnastics program, until 1992. He was inducted into the BHS Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Illinois Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2008. Andy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Hanau, Germany. He was on the US swimming and diving teams and earned the championship for fancy diving in Berlin in 1952. Andy was a Life Member of VFW Post 7706 and the National Education Association. In addition, Andy was past president and a long-time member of the Illinois High School Gymnastics Coaches Association which honored him for his "untiring effort?to make great strides in the sport of gymnastics." Survivors include his wife, Diane P. Kostick (nee McNanna); his children Yuri (Sacha) Kostick and Jolie Kostick; 3 grandsons, Andrew Bode Kostick, William Alden Kostick, and Alexander Brennan Kostick; a sister Dorothy Kostick; brothers Patrick and Gene Kostick; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis (Ludvik) Kostick and Mary (nee Kaminitsky, Casper); sister Evelyn Janusz; and brother John Kostick. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Kostick?s name may be made to the Barrington Fire Department (Paramedics), 400 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL 60010.
