Andrew A. Mueller, 94, passed away on September 24, 2018. Born in Evanston, Illinois on July 11, 1924, his life was full of accomplishments.
Andrew (Andy) graduated from New Trier High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Navy in December of that year. In 1944, he was sent from active duty to attend Northwestern University as part of the V-12 Navy College Training Program. WWII ended before he finished his degree, and he finished his classes as a civilian. Andy graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in June 1946 and two weeks later married Margaret (nee Roemer) in Wilmette, Illinois. His engineering career took them to Baltimore, MD, Barrington and Northbrook, IL, South Bend, IN, and finally to his own company, MOD-TEK, Inc. in Rock Falls, IL. Andy attained his Pilot’s License and as President of MOD-TEK, Inc., Andy purchased a Mooney single-engine airplane. He and Marge flew throughout the U.S., traveling for both business and pleasure. Andy was an avid pilot until he sold his plane in 2009. In addition, he holds several US Patents.
Throughout his life, Andy was an amateur radio enthusiast, enjoyed bowling with colleagues, camping and fishing with his six children, boating and water skiing, snow skiing in the high country, and eventually, landscaping and planting gardens. He was perpetually inventing, designing, and building, making his family’s life more efficient and practical and his surroundings more beautiful. His sketches and plans changed throughout his life, including short wave radio equipment and antennas during his earlier engineering years, and boat ramps and hydroponic gardening apparatus throughout his later years.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife Marge of 72 years, as well as his six children: Jim (Vicki) Mueller, Dr. Larry (Rebecca) Mueller, Margie (Larry) Glueck, Mary Kay (Jeff) Sayles, Anne (Todd Fosbenner) Mueller, and Jeanne (Michael) Mitchell. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren (and their 11 spouses) and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral mass, 10:00 am, on Saturday, September 29 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Barrington. Interment will be held privately.
