Ann Anderson

Orvetta Ann Barnes Anderson, 83, passed away on March 10, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on September 30, 1941, in Cleveland, OH to Wayland and Betty Barnes and grew up in Peoria, IL. She was a proud graduate of Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, where she began her career as a Registered Nurse; perfectly matching her deep compassion for others.

Ann’s life was marked by her unwavering love for her family and her community. She is preceded in death by her parents, and survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim; their two children, James (Stacy) Anderson of Acworth, GA, and Amy (Andy) Kraabel of Glenview, IL; her brother, Chad Barnes; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was the proud Grammy to her five grandchildren; Taylor and Laney Anderson, and Hailey, Riley and Casey Kraabel.

Ann was a lifelong member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, having spent over 50 years as an active member, first in Chapter LG of Arlington Heights and later in Chapter IA of Crystal Lake. Her kindness, care, and willingness to always put others first were at the heart of everything she did, whether she was spending hours with friends and family over coffee or lending a helping hand to anyone in need.

A summer resident of Lake Bracken, Galesburg, IL, Ann spent her childhood on the water. From chatting on the boat with friends, to lifeguarding at the beach and playing in (and sometimes even winning!) golf tournaments, the cottage was where she truly felt at home. Ann was overjoyed to be able to share this cherished part of her life with her children and grandchildren.

Ann had a rich appreciation for the fine arts, often enjoying trips to the Lyric Opera and the Art Institute. A dedicated pianist, she loved to fill her home with the sounds of music. Deeply rooted in her Methodist faith, she chose to embrace each day with a heart full of gratitude, and was a lover of all creatures, big and small. Her house was not truly a home without a pet, and she took great joy in tending to her backyard garden while surrounded by wildlife.

Always enjoying good laughs and conversation, she could be lost for hours in the company of friends and family. She had an adventurous spirit and was always willing to try new things.

Her caring and compassionate nature left a mark on everyone who knew her. While she is deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that her love and legacy will continue to live on through her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

We love you today, tomorrow, and always, Grammy!
