Annie S. Holsten, 88, of Crystal Lake died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Centegra Hospital, McHenry. She was born July 1, 1929 in McHenry to Nikolaus and Anna (Klintworth) Tietjen.
On October 23, 1948, Annie married John Holsten. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol.
Annie grew up on a farm in the Crystal Lake area and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Bauer Oil Company in Crystal Lake and also kept books for her husband’s service station and automotive businesses. She had a passion for gardening and always enjoyed working in her yard. Annie was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Don) Freese of Chesterton, IN; son, Jim (JoAnn) Holsten of Crystal Lake; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Larry) Nakamura of Hermosa Beach, CA, Rachel (Mike) Nicholson of Zionsville, IN, Jessica (Derek) Loverich of McHenry, and Leah and Tori Holsten of Crystal Lake; and four great-grandchildren, Calista and Dryden Nicholson and Matthew and Natalie Loverich.
The visitation will be 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, May 10, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake. The funeral service will be Friday, May 11, at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Historic Church, 178 W. McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake with a visitation starting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Annie’s name may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Altar Guild, 300 S. Pathway Ct., Crystal Lake, IL 60014
