Ardelle Louise Scohy

Ardelle Louise Scohy (née Hermanson), 83, of Island Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on May 15, 1941, in Chicago, Ardelle lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering optimism.

A proud graduate of Amundsen High School, Class of 1959, Ardelle was the heart of her family—a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and the most incredible “Nana” to her 4 grandchildren. Her warmth and joy were contagious, and she had a way of making life’s challenges seem lighter with her humor and wisdom. She was remarkably strong, loving, and always genuine, the kind of person who never made an enemy and whose laughter could brighten any room. She often reminded everyone to find humor and resilience in even the toughest moments. Her love for her family and her ability to bring joy to any situation were central to who she was. Her memory will live on through her family and friends, as well as the legacy of her laughter and loving spirit. Ardelle was truly the best.

She found great joy as an aid on a school bus with her preschool “buddies”. She knew them all by name, and they by hers, and she cherished their little conversations. Each day was not just a job, but rather a chance to make a difference in their little worlds. Ardelle is survived by her husband, John Scohy; her daughters, Melissa (Kevin) Nash and Amanda (Brian) McCaskey; her cherished grandchildren, Jack and Emma Nash and Abigail and Rowan McCaskey; and her dear cousin, Doris (Richard) Braun.

Ardelle was preceded in death by her mother, Martha (née Leander) Hermanson, and her brother, Donald (Elaine Hofer) Hermanson.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ardelle’s life at a memorial visitation on Sunday, February 16, from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 1:30 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
