Arlene Theophelis

Arlene F. Theophelis Hoekstra, 68, formerly of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock.

She was born May 29, 1943 in Highland Park, Michigan to the late Howard “Whitey” Robinson and LuElla (nee Johnston) Coleman.

Arlene served beautifully made and presented meals and was a talented decorative artist who enjoyed needlework and interior decorating. In addition to volunteering for the Salvation Army, she loved animals, tended to her house plants, and enjoyed bargain hunting at flea markets and garage sales. She was witty and could tell a good joke.

While at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Arlene was known as the “Hospitality Committee” and enjoyed bingo. It was at Valley Hi where she met her beloved companion, Howard Hoekstra.

Survivors include her children, Lee (Jody) Theophelis of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Stacy (Thomas) Hubley of Fox River Grove; grandchildren, Alexandra and Phoebe Theophelis and Nicholas and Mikayla Hubley; siblings, Deborah (Kirk) Miller of West Bloomfield, Mich., Kevin Coleman of Idaho and Edward Michael Coleman of Lake Orion, Mich.; and former husband, George Theophelis of Jacksonville, Fla.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Coleman, Jr.

The visitation will be from 3 p.m. Saturday, January 21 until the time of the service at 5 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (IL Rte 176), Crystal Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Arlene’s name may be made to Valley Hi Nursing Home, Attention: Administrator, 2406 Hartland Rd, Woodstock IL 60098-9763 (please note “donation” on the memo line).
