Arlon “Ar” Fuerholzer, 87, longtime resident of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, April 11, 2024. She was born on October 4, 1936, to Joseph and Ada (Wayker) Bergagna in Spring Valley, IL.
Ar graduated from Hall Community High School in 1954. Arlon‘s first job was at Moews Seed Corn Company as a Secretary.
On November 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, Jim Fuerholzer in Peru, IL. In their 66 years of marriage, they had numerous towns they called home, from Lincoln NE to Newburyport, MA. In 1965 they settled in Crystal Lake to raise their family.
Arlon enjoyed traveling with her husband. She especially loved driving trips out east to see the leaves change in autumn.
Arlon's greatest treasure were her grandchildren, and she found immense joy in spending time with them. She loved nothing more than creating cherished memories with her family, whether it was making homemade waffles, playing cards, enjoying a game of whiffle ball in the backyard, or reminiscing about family vacation adventures. She always made sure there was candy in the candy dish and ice cream sandwiches in the freezer. She enjoyed shopping and breakfast at Andy’s with Grandpa and their grandkids.
Arlon’s love of gardening could be seen all around her home and yard. Through her passion for flowers and plants, Arlon taught her children and grandchildren a great appreciation for all living things. She always had a little helper or two to water the plants around the yard.
Arlon was an avid reader. She affectionately referred to her “book club of 2” as she swapped books with her brother-in-law, Sid.
Arlon is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Fuerholzer, her children, James Fuerholzer (Sandy Werner), Robert (Rose) Fuerholzer, Susan (Michael) Schendl, and Scott (Jennifer) Fuerholzer.
She was a cherished Granny to Alyssa (Frank) Wees, Kara Fuerholzer, JD Fuerholzer, Joseph Barkley (Fiona Cummings), Colin Barkley, Emma Barkley (Ross Seiler), Brynn Schendl, Nathan Schendl, Max Fuerholzer, and Gretchen Fuerholzer. Arlon was also a beloved Great Granny to Aurora Barkley, Gardner Seiler, and Belle Wees.
Arlon is survived by her 2 sisters, Joan (late Gerald) Gmeiner and Pinky (late Sid) Martin, brother-in-law, Richard Fuerholzer and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved niece Kristin Martin.
Her gentle spirit and unwavering support touched the hearts of all who knew her.
