Arthur T. "Tom" Johnsen

Arthur T. “Tom” Johnsen, 71, a resident of Arlington Heights for 42 years, passed away on July 14, 2017. He was born April 17, 1946 in Chicago to Olaf and Esther (nee Green) Johnsen. Arthur was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington.

In the past he enjoyed counting the offering after the service. He enjoyed spending time at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, where he watched movies and listened to music. He had a good sense of humor and shared it with family and friends by emailing jokes and funny stories to them. He and his wife were avid Chicago Cubs fans. At the age of 15, Arthur worked at Walgreens and eventually became the assistant manager. In 1968 he was a driver for Brinks where he retired after 38 years. After retirement, he was a driver for a local trucking company and for Schneider Trucking for a few years. On April 21, 1973, Arthur was united in marriage to Reva Biesterfeld at Salem United Methodist Church. They celebrated 42 years of marriage until her passing in 2015.

He is survived by his two daughters, Patty Johnsen and Kathy (Nathan) Schrenk; three grandchildren, Arthur, Noah, and Helen. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Arlene (Chuck) Young and brother-in-law, Larae Biesterfeld.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, from 4 pm – 8 pm at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W Lincoln Ave., Barrington. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 until the time of funeral service at 11:30. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
