Barbara Joan Abate, 83, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2021. She was born on October 20, 1937 in Manhattan, NY to Charles and Adeline Toscani.
On October 19, 1957 she married her childhood sweetheart, Marvin. They celebrated 33 beautiful years until his passing in 1991. Barbara loved to travel and traveled through 4 of the 7 continents. She was a seamstress, enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her home. Above all, Barbara cherished being with her husband, family and friends. She really enjoyed a sense of community, whether it was through her home or church. She volunteered for St. Mary’s Church in Huntley, IL as a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her loving daughters, Kathryn (David) DeBord and Karen Elizabeth Johnson; grandchildren, Vivien, Zane, MacLain and Trevor; her sister-in-law, Eileen Ferrara; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Richard Toscani.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela St. (Corner of Franklin and Ela Sts), Barrington. There will be a visitation at church starting at 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Interment to follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien.
