Barbara Ayres

Wauconda, Illinois,Barbara Blomgren Hughes Ayres passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at 2:40PM. She was 69 years old. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Barbara spent her formative years in Chicago?s North Shore suburbs. Her father a homebuilder along the North Shore, she, her parents, and her younger brother Bruce lived mostly in Lake Forest and Northfield. Barbara went to high school at New Trier High School in Winnetka, and graduated in 1958. She went to Albion College in Michigan, where she majored in education and joined the Phi Beta Phi sorority. After graduation, Barbara taught kindergarten in Northfield. Most of Barbara?s adult life, however, was spent in Tower Lakes, a small lake community between Wauconda and Barrington. There she raised her three children, Todd, Greg, and Donna, and also became involved with the many activities, clubs, and people of the neighborhood. She joined the Federated Church of Wauconda. Barbara later started her own business, Barbara B?s, which allowed her to work with women and their clothing, accessories, and images. As an entrepreneur, she joined the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce and Barrington Area Professional Women?s Club. In the communities of Tower Lakes, Wauconda, and Barrington, Barbara made a great many friends that were dear to her. Barbara?s passions included her faith, family, and friends, and she also enjoyed trying new creative endeavors, such as painting, knitting, gardening, and stamping, among other things. She loved to travel. She found a new and powerful calling, however, when her grandchildren were born. Barbara faithfully and joyfully spent time with her grandchildren, especially the two that lived locally; she babysat them at least once every week since the day the oldest was born. As a loving grandmother, she thrived. Barbara is survived by her brother Bruce Holmes Blomgren (Dawn), her oldest son Todd Alexander Hughes (Sue), her son Gregory Charles Hughes (Bridget), and her daughter Donna Lynne Hughes. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Brennan Charles Hughes, Caroline Ann Hughes, Allie Genevieve Hughes, and Adeline Genevieve Hughes. Barbara?s visitation is scheduled from 4:00PM to 9:00PM on Monday, November 30 2009, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake Cook Rd), Barrington. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00AM on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Federated Church of Wauconda, 200 Barrington Road, Wauconda.
