Basil Lynn Haley, 57, of Wauconda, Illinois passed away on January 23, 2022. He was born April 10, 1964 as the fourth of five sons to Joe and Mary Haley. He and his brothers were raised on the family farm in Marion, Indiana. There his love of old barns, Farmall tractors, and cooking with his Grandma Haley grew. He enjoyed choir and drama while at Eastbrook High School and was a member of Future Farmers of America. He spent weekend evenings cruising the town square with good friends.
He met his wife, Dawn (Caldwell) Haley, while attending Butler University in Indianapolis, and completed his degree in Journalism at Indiana Wesleyan University. Basil and Dawn married in 1988, and he moved to be with her in Illinois. They bought their home in Wauconda in 1992 and began building their family. He was blessed with two wonderful children, Nicole and Adam. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for over 25 years. He loved greeting visitors at the Welcome Center, volunteering for overnight shifts for PADS and leading Middle School Youth huddle groups.
Basil was an avid car fan and made it his profession- selling auto parts for over 30 years. He worked for Murphy's Auto Parts, CarQuest, O'Reilly's, Bumper to Bumper and Napa. He was hard-working, always went the extra mile, and was never happier than when he was able to help out a customer.
Basil's hobbies over the years were photography, writing stories (and in later years, sharing them on Facebook), collecting quotes and diecast car/truck models.
Basil is survived by his wife Dawn (Caldwell) Haley, his children Nicole Haley and Adam Haley, his brothers Nelson (Annette) Haley, Lonnie (Minnie) Haley, (Becky) Haley.
Basil was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents Joseph Haley and Mary (Tarr) Haley, his brothers John Haley and Joseph Haley Jr. (as a baby).
