Bernard “Bernie” P. Boyle passed away peacefully August 15, 2022 in Barrington surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 18, 1934 in Chicago to Bernard and Josie Boyle.
Bernie met his wife, Betty, in 1961 at a mutual friend’s wedding and told those nearby that he was marrying her someday. That someday was the following year. Once Bernie retired, he started exploring the arts and became a proficient wood carver and sculptor and he also volunteered his time helping reconstruct homes of people who were affected by natural disasters such as the Joplin, MO tornado. Bernie was a deeply spiritual man who was very active in his church, was constantly smiling, loved to tell stories and some really awful Dad jokes, and enjoyed his occasional bottle of Heineken or glass of Southern Comfort. It’s nearly impossible to put into words the impact Bernie had on so many lives. He was dearly loved by all of his family and friends.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; children, Patrice Boyle, Chris (Sabrina) Boyle, Eileen (Jerry Merkt) Boyle, Marybeth Boyle, and Joe (Amy) Boyle; grandchildren, Hailey, Elisse, Peyton, Siobhan, Kieran, Collin, Tony, and Charlotte; brother, Bill (late Mary Ellen) Boyle; sister, Catherine “Chicky” (late Ramon) Green; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Father Michael Boyle; nephew, Timmy Green; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 10am until the funeral mass at 11:30am Saturday, August 27th at Resurrection Catholic Church, 2918 Country Club Road, Woodstock.
