Bernice "Bea" (nee Vehrs) Lemke

Bernice “Bea” Lemke was born March 25, 1924 in Chicago to Gerhard and Frieda Vehrs. She passed away peacefully June 4, 2021 at her home in Huntley, surrounded by her loving family.

Bea was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Barrington. She was past-president of the altar guild at  St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northbrook.  Bea found the most joy when she was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed bowling, sewing, playing cards, dancing, golfing and snowmobiling (in her younger years)!

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Erwin “Erv” in 2015.  She is survived by her children, Gerald (Martha) Lemke, Robert (Catherine) Lemke, and Lori (Joseph) Quinn; grandchildren, Matthew (Claire) Lemke, Scott (Dana) Lemke, Elizabeth Kowles, Dawn (Brennan) O’Malley, Marie (Mike) Pietrantoni, Timothy Quinn, Jennifer Lemke, Robbie Lemke (Katie Polit), and Daniel (Miranda) Quinn; great grandchildren, Giselle, Maxwell, Fiona, Violet,  Nazareth, and Rowan; brother, Herbert Vehrs; sisters in law, Donna Vehrs and Bernie Vehrs; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Kenneth.

Visitation will be 4-9pm Monday, June 14 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 720 S. Dundee Avenue, Barrington.  The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm Tuesday, June 15 at the church with a time of visitation starting at 12:30 pm.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
