Bernice (nee Linn) Mason was born in Lockridge, IA, on April 18, 1925; she died in Lake Barrington, IL, on February 24, 2022.
Bernice grew up in the small town of Lockridge Iowa in a close-knit Swedish family. She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and taught home economics and science in Lockridge. After a year of teaching, she became a flight attendant for United Airlines. While there, she met and married Richard A. Mason. They began their married life in Denver, moved to the Boston area, and then settled in Barrington where they became long-time residents. Bernice and Richard celebrated their 59thwedding anniversary prior to his passing in 2010.
Bernice loved Jesus and trusted in Him as her Savior and Redeemer. She shared her faith with everyone she met and prayed that they too would come to a saving relationship with Christ. She was very active in her churches, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved art and painted with oils and watercolors for many years.
Bernice is survived by daughter Teresa Chatel (Robert) and granddaughter Jacqui Sharpe (Brandon), great-granddaughters Cecily & Juniper, granddaughter Danae Redelsperger (Ross) great-grandson Robert Anthony, as well as son Bradley (Barbara Grady), granddaughter Lauren Kiscaden (Patrick) and great-granddaughters Nellie & Penny.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 10am, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL. A memorial service will follow at noon; internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Samaritan's Purse, Bernice's favorite Christian organization.
