Betty Karson

Crystal Lake, Illinois,Betty Jane Karson, 80 of Crystal Lake, IL, died April 27, 2011, at Centegra Hospital of McHenry. She was born August 30 1930 in Chicago to Kenneth and Julie (nee Svientek) Healy. She married her high school sweetheart on August 2, 1952 at St. Constance Church in Chicago. Betty received her Bachelor?s degree in Education and also in Art from Mundelein College. She began her career, teaching primary grades in the Chicago School System; and after raising her family, she became a realtor in the Northwest Suburbs. She loved to paint and she exhibited in local art shows. Card playing was a favorite pastime with long time friends. Betty loved animals; she was especially fond of her dogs, Toto and Bonnie, as well as her cats, Smokey and Spikey. Most of all, she enjoyed her family and adored her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Steve; children, Steve Jr. (Christine) Karson, Lisa Ann (George) Bach, and son-in-law, Patrick Gries; her loving grandchildren, Brandon Bach, Karson Gries, Kenneth Bach, Lindsay Karson, Emily Sue Gries, Alex Bach, Chelsea Karson, Anneliese Gries, Ashley Bach and Liam Gries; her aunt, Sylvia Rakowski, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Allyson Sue Gries; father, Kenneth Healy; mother, Julie Bakula and her step-father, William Bakula, The family wishes to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Centegra Hospital of McHenry for their care and support. The visitation will be from 3-9pm, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL, 60014 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Woodstock, IL.
