Bruce Wilder Cameron

Bruce Wilder Cameron died peacefully in his home of 37 years in Barrington, IL on February 22, 2018.  He was surrounded by those he loved most.  Bruce was born in South Sioux City, NE on May 22, 1932.   He leaves behind Chris, his wife of almost 40 years, and a beloved sister-in-law Daria, and is survived by an older sister Lela, as well as two children, five grandchildren, and one great grandson.  His wife, and his family & close friends, were the most beloved part of his life, and he cherished each and every one of them in his own special way.   After a brief stint in the army where he served his country proudly, Bruce attended Ohio State University where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations/Communications.  Bruce was the Editor in Chief of Law and Order Magazine, a specialized monthly publication targeted for Chiefs of Police on an international level, and which he helped grow from a fledgling enterprise to the well-respected publication it was at the time of his retirement in January, 2000.   It was a match made in heaven for Bruce; he was able to combine his degree with his longtime passion for police work into a fulfilling career, earning the respect of many of his targeted reading audience with his insight, wit, compassion, and love for the policing world.   During his editorial tenure, Bruce also authored a specialty book titled “Police Cars, A Graphic History” which was a true labor of love for him, and which was so well received in its initial printing that a second printing and distribution took place.  Bruce was also honored to be appointed as the Marshal for the Village of Barrington, and proudly served in this capacity for nearly 20 years, leading a dedicated group of 20 volunteers who comprised the Village’s then auxiliary police force.   Bruce and his wife were fortunate to be able to travel the world together, and experienced many adventures together; this, combined with their shared love of photography and interest in camera collecting, provided many of the happy memories they shared together.  Bruce Cameron was a remarkable man who will be missed not only by his grieving widow, but by the many friends and loved ones whose lives he touched.  As C.S. Lewis said “The pain now is part of the happiness then.  That’s the deal.”  Bruce will be dearly missed and never forgotten.  Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, from 9:00am until the time of his mass at 11:00am at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 N.
