Bruce Allen Johnson, 59, of Crystal Lake, succumbed to brain cancer on October 21, 2013, in Barrington, IL, after a brave three and a half year battle.
He was born on December 2, 1953, to Delbert and Annabelle Johnson in Viborg, South Dakota.
Bruce graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in inorganic chemistry in 1976. He then pursued his masters at the University of Minnesota. Bruce worked for the Valspar Corporation for 34 years, most recently as a technical director. During his long tenure with Valspar, he received a number of prestigious awards as well as being named on several patents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Diane, and his 3 children, Drew (Natalia), Adam, and Tessa Rose. Bruce is also survived by his mother, Annabelle; his brother, Brian; and his sister, Gloria.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert.
Visitation will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
The Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 West Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. There will also be a brief visitation at the church from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
