Bryon Edward Foss, 73, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away on June 1, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born on July 27, 1941 to Edwin and Alva (nee Flugstad) Foss of Westby, WI where he was raised.

Bryon graduated from Westby High School in 1959 and then went on to receive his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and his MS degree in Ecology from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. The majority of his career was proudly spent with the US Forest Service, spanning 33 years and retiring as the Assistant Director of Engineering for Technical Applications and Support in Washington, D.C.

Bryon was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of 37 years; three sons, Eric (Tiffany) of Waupaca, WI, Brandon (Ellen) of Muskego, WI, and Bradley (Nicole) of Rosendale, WI; seven grandsons, Karl, Jakob, Harrison, Greysen, Bennett, Griffin and Henry; and two sisters, Mary Schumann and Sylvia (Ron) Zigler.

Above all, Bryon loved his family. Together they enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and hunting. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage including the culinary and festive traditions, and even took up Scandinavian wood carving in his later years. He was an avid Wisconsin Badger football fan and enjoyed many games with his family and friends. Bryon was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was often referred to as a 'good Christian man'.

The funeral service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 on Saturday, June 6th at 2pm with a visitation starting at 12 noon.

Burial will be at Coon Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in Westby, WI on Monday, June 8th, at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, www.chicagoprostatefoundation.org, or to Bethany Lutheran Church.
