Caliope (Xenakis) Sudzina went home to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday September 3, 2021. Callie was born on November 27, 1927, in Campbell, Ohio to Charles and Irene (Magos) Xenakis, the youngest of their 5 children.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Campbell Memorial High School in 1946. Callie went on to work at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube where she excelled until she married her next-door neighbor, Edward Sudzina, in 1958. Ed and Callie were blessed with three children. The family moved from Campbell in 1972 to Indianapolis, Indiana where they lived for 11years. They moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan in 1985 until Ed & Callie retired in Florida in 1991.
Callie loved being a wife, mother, and a homemaker. Family took precedence over everything, and she loved them immensely. She had a strong faith and loved Jesus. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, bingo, and card games---ONLY if a small wager was on the game. She was also an avid Ohio State football fan. Callie always displayed her kind heart and generous spirit to friends and strangers alike. She befriended most everyone she encountered and had several life-long best friends. Callie was a “giver”, and no one would ever leave her home hungry. In retirement, Callie spent much of her time helping out at her parish with weekly Bingo and the Ladies Auxiliary. Callie loved to joke around and tried (successfully) to make those around her laugh.
Callie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward, and all four siblings. She leaves behind her children, Michael (Karla) Sudzina, Donna Graham, and Edward Sudzina; her grandchildren, Michael Sudzina Jr., Jordan (Taylor) Schoen, Callie and Rachel Graham, Sophia and Margo Sudzina; and her great-grandchildren Noah, Vienna, and (Baby) Schoen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday September 13 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Visitation is at the church from 9AM until the Funeral Mass at 11AM. A luncheon will be held immediately following the Mass in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Callie’s name to her beloved long-time home parish, St. Anne Byzantine Catholic Church, 7120 Massachusetts Avenue, New Port Richey, FL 34653
