Carl Gottwald
March 24, 1922 — April 20, 2014
Carl Heinz Gottwald, 92, of Barrington, passed away April 20, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Olive “Bubs” (nee Schwendener), devoted father of Robert E. Rettger, David W. (Nancy) Rettger, Karl J. Rettger, and Laurie H. (Regg) Ackerman; cherished grandfather of Christy, Beth, Robby, Ashley, and Rachel Rettger and Landon and Ryan Cummins; loving son of the late Karl and Hedwig Gottwald; and the dear brother of Sonja (Pat) Drake.
Carl was a US Naval Officer during WWII. He graduated college with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and then went on to receive his MBA and CFP. After his retirement he obtained a PhD in Modern European History at the age of 77.
