Carl Peterson

The funeral service for Carl W. Peterson,90, of Barrington will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., April 14 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington. Interment is private. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Carl was born January 31, 1922 to Carl John and Swea (nee Forstrom) Peterson in Evanston.  He grew up in Glencoe, and was a Northbrook resident for 50 years before moving to Barrington.

He was a member of St. Paul UCC, and was a longtime member of Village Presbyterian Church, where he served as church treasurer. He was a former member of Sunset Ridge Country Club, Chicago Curling Club, Union League Club and Shore Club. Carl was an Eagle Scout, and achieved the rank of Vigil in Order of the Arrow.

Survivors include his children, Cindy (Bill) Spaulding and Wayne Peterson; five grandchildren, Eric Peterson, Kimberly Peterson, Jonathan Spaulding, Mark Peterson and Daniel Spaulding, and one great-grandchild, River Strand.  He is also survived by two nieces, Janet Wertz and Pamela Lambros, a nephew, Jeff Peterson, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Peterson, a brother-in-law, Paul Wertz, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (nee Leeberg) Peterson, his brother, Earl, and a niece, Linda.

Before his retirement, Carl was senior vice president controller of Trans Union Corp. He was corporate controller of Union Tank Car Co., and before that was an audit manager with Arthur Andersen.  He graduated from Northwestern University and New Trier H.S.  He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
