Carl Wright

Carl M. Wright, born January 3, 1945 in Chicago, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at his home in Crystal Lake surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Crystal Lake in 1974. He taught at North Elementary School for five years and worked for First National Bank of Chicago for 25 years. He retired from the McHenry County Tax Assessment Office in 2010.

He volunteered for many community organizations. Carl was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 127 for ten years, he was involved with the McHenry County Conservation District, and he participated in The Trail of History for many years, as well as teaching classes on Native American Crafts. He loved camping and the outdoors and, with his brother Ray, practiced traditional archery and made traditional bows as well as teaching the craft of bow-making to others.

Carl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Deborah (nee Saltiel); children, Daniel (Laura) Wright, and Rachel (Joel) Jacobson; granddaughter June Jacobson; and his brother Ray Wright, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond William and Ruth Louise (nee Berndt) Wright.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held Thursday, October 16 at Davenport Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the time of the memorial service at 11am.

Memorial donations in Carl’s name may be made to: Running Strong for Native American Youth, McHenry County Conservation District, or The Sage Cancer Center in McHenry.
