Carmel I. Price
Carmel I. Price,92, of Crystal Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 24,2011, at his home.
He was born October 31,1918, in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Henry J. and Chrysanthia “Grace” (nee Huber) Price. He married Dorothy Schubert in 1941. She passed away in 1971.
Carmel attended Tilden Technical High School in Chicago. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a drum major in the Army Air Force band and traveled many miles selling war bonds. He appeared in the band of “This is the Army” and went on to play the drums in a four-piece band called the Cool Cats.
He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 30 years and went on to work for his son, Rick, at Rick and Lou’s Service Center in Crystal Lake, where he was a bookkeeper for 25 years until his eyesight started to fail. He was known for his extraordinary sense of humor and ability to share a good joke.
He is survived by his children, Dorothy (the late James) McDonald of Melbourne, AR, Jeannette Price of Poplar Grove, and Rick (Janet) Price of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, James (Kathy) McDonald , Darlene (Don) Whatley, and John (Charlotte) McDonald and Timothy (Amy) Price and Kevin (Julie) Price; great-grandchildren, Cody and Tyler Price and many other great-grandchildren; dear friend and loving companion of 39 years, Margaret Nienstedt of Crystal Lake, with whom he traveled the world; and brother, Vincent Price of Texas.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nancy McDonald; and siblings, Lenore Miller, Sr. Mary Ricardo Price, Sebastian Price, Edward Price, Vincent Price, Wendell Price, Quentin “Bob” Price, and Ricardo Price.
The visitation will be Friday, May 27, from 3-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake and Saturday, May,28, from 9 a.m. until the time of transfer prayers at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
