Carol Jean Wildey (nee Dorr), 73, of Crystal Lake passed away September 6, 2017 at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous and long battle with stage 4 breast cancer for the past 7 ½ years. Carol was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 27, 1943 to Walter and Louise (nee Engdahl) Dorr.
In 1964, Carol graduated from the Abbott Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. This is also where she started her career and after a few years of working at Abbott she moved to Virginia Beach to work at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. While working there she met Richard Wildey and they were married on November 4, 1967. They eventually settled in Crystal Lake where they raised their two daughters.
Carol worked at Sherman Hospital in Elgin and in 1978 helped open Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. While her main concentration was in pediatrics, she eventually retired as the Pediatric Clinical Educator for Good Shepherd Hospital. During this time she also received her BS from the College of St. Francis in May of 1995. After retiring from Good Shepherd, Carol worked in the infectious disease field in Barrington installing PIC lines and caring for patients who needed long-term infusion therapy.
Carol was involved in many activities throughout her life including tennis, golf, gardening, Campfire, and officiating competitive swimming. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Carol will be remembered for her sharp wit, ability to make people laugh, and her tenacious spirit, never failing to amaze people.
She is survived by her husband, Dick; her two daughters, Stephanie (Michael) Wozny and Pamela (Flip) Lukens; and her grandchildren, Rhiannon and Makenna Wozny and Joseph and Jackson Lukens.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 10 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral will be Monday, September 11th at 1 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, with a short visitation starting at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carol’s name can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.
