Carol Lorraine (Schaufler) Peden

Carol Lorraine Peden, 80, resident of Palatine, IL for 46 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 10, 2020. She was born on March 7, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Lorraine Marjorie Signora (nee Hinz) and Howard Charles Schaufler, Sr.

Carol will be deeply missed by her loving children, Jeffrey Peden and Laura (Steve) Slaw; grandchildren, Derek (fiancée Lauren Parrish) Slaw and Andrea (fiancé Jon Mayyou) Slaw; sister, Darlene (Grant) Malchow; sisters-in-law, Ann Schaufler, Sonja and Carol Peden; and by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarke Dennis Peden; her brother, Howard “Bud” Schaufler, Jr.; and by her parents.

Carol attended Farragut High School in Chicago, IL and graduated in 1958. She began working as an accountant at Standard Oil in the Civic Opera House. She attended Bethany Lutheran Church where she met Dennis in Choir. They were married on November 25, 1961.

Carol had many various activities she enjoyed over her lifetime. She spent many years on bowling leagues and played tennis. She and Dennis also spent many years in square dancing clubs and on golf leagues together with friends.

They enjoyed camping all over the country with their mini motor home while their children were young. When they retired, they began traveling in a larger motor coach sometimes with their two grandchildren. They also took memorable trips around the world, many of which Carol organized for large groups of their friends. They were snowbirds of Venice, FL for the last 20 years.

She always loved having her dog companions, Sparky, Mandy I and II, Saki, Kelly, and Nikki. She was an advocate for animals and generously donated to animal rescue shelters.

She will be greatly missed but she would want people to be happy and enjoy life to the fullest just as she did.

A Celebration of Carol's Life will be held at a later date.
