On Friday, January 3rd, 2025, our dear mother Carol Jean Vanderlinden (nee Metzner) passed away at the age of eighty-six. Carol was born the second child to her parents Arthur & Evelyn (nee Norton) Metzner in Chicago, IL on Monday, September 5, 1938.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack Vanderlinden. Carol and Jack were married on June 24th, 1961 in Midlothian, IL and were married for forty-seven years. Carol is survived by her children Lori (Steven) Smith, Shari (Scott) Hart, Paula (Rob) Vanderlinden and Sue (Scott) Boehringer. Also survived by her grandchildren Michael (Megan Brown) Smith, Bryan (Amy Mihelich) Smith, Sam Boehringer and Matthew Boehringer, as well as her brother Arthur Metzner, Jr and many nieces and nephews.

Carol spent much of her life in the Chicago area, and she also lived in Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan and Indiana during her marriage to Jack, prior to his passing in 2008. Carol enjoyed raising her four children, many crafts and hobbies and was very active volunteering with the United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. Throughout her life Carol volunteered with the United Methodist Women in their work feeding the hungry via Meals on Wheels, feeding the homeless via church-run food kitchens, and staffing resale shops run by the United Methodist Church.

Carol will be interred alongside her husband at the Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN. Locally the Davenport Family Funeral Home in Lake Zurich, IL took Carol into their care and the family held a private memorial on January 6, 2025. Details on the memorial service held at the time of her interment in Valparaiso, IN to follow.
