Biography Caryn Kay Whitmore Habley
Of Lake Zurich

Born September 5, 1946 in Madison, WI, passed away peacefully May 2, 2015, at her home in Lake Zurich.

Caryn earned her Bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN and a Masters degree in physical education from University of Illinois. She was a member of the Secular Franciscans of Marytown, and the St. Maximilian Kolb Fraternity. Caryn was a volunteer of the St. Anne Project Hope Ministry, and a longtime volunteer and manager of the St. Anne House of Hope Resale Shop in Barrington. In November, 2014 Caryn was presented with the “As One Who Serves” Award from St. Anne Catholic Church, given to a parishioner who has distinguished themselves by their joy, commitment, and example as a servant disciple and leader within the parish community. She had a loving, caring spirit and will be truly missed by her family, many friends, and dog, Buddy.

Our beloved sister in Christ Caryn Habley, OFS, made her perpetual Rite of Profession into the Secular Franciscan Order on October 4, 1993 at the St. Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity at Marytown in Libertyville, IL. Elizabeth of Hungary was her chosen religious name. Caryn served her Fraternity as Instructor of Inquierers and Novices from 1993 until her death. In addition, she served as Formation Director for nine years, and was elected Minister of the St. Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity for two consecutive terms.

Shortly after making her Profession she became committed Eucharistic Adorer at Marytown, making weekly holy hour for the rest of her life. Caryn was also Knight at the Foot of the Cross, a Spiritual Vanguard of prayer-warriors. She offered her daily sacrifices and sufferings for the evangelization work of the Militia Immaculata, an international organization headquartered at Marytown.

Caryn brought many souls closer to our beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and in close relationship with her Seraphic Father, St. Francis of Assisi. She will be remembered by countless spiritual children who were touched by her true love of Christ, manifested by her authentic Franciscan charism.

Special thanks to Peggy Sobolewski and Jim Wallace for their dear friendship and support of Caryn over the past months, and Marybeth Webb, RN for the care she provided to Caryn in her final weeks,

Caryn is survived by her sister Elizabeth Whitmore, nephew Whitmore Kelley, and niece Charlotte Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave, and her parents Ned and Eunice Whitmore.
