Casimir “Casey” Sachaj, 84, of Algonquin passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on April 19, 2018. He was born in Chicago to the late Rudolph and Mary (Krol) Sachaj on May 24, 1933.
Casey served in the US Army from 1953-1956 and played clarinet in the 118th Army Band; he also enjoyed traveling through Europe. Casey was the loving husband to Sue for 31 years. Together they owned and operated the Golden Eagle Ice Cream Shop on Main Street in Algonquin for many years. He loved bowling and was a lifelong Cubs and Blackhawks fan. Casey was very proud of his Polish heritage and loved the music of Frederic Chopin.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sue; children, Catherine (Thomas) Olson, Marie Sachaj, and Eric (Mindy) Sachaj; six grandchildren, Sean, Shanna and Zachary Olson, Devin Townsend, Caleb (Jensa) and Rebecca Sachaj; step children, Dawn (Mark) Hallenbeck, Connie (Bob) Scott, David Dyson, and Kimberly Patis; 13 step grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Frayn; brother, Richard; and his step daughter, Robin Johnson.
A celebration of Casey’s life will take place on Saturday, April 28, from 10 AM until the time of a service at 1 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Casey’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
