Charles D. Landis, 83, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Born on September 15, 1941, in Crystal Lake, Illinois, he was the youngest of seven children born to Oscar and Dorothy Bell (Cook) Landis.
Known affectionately as "Buck" or "Chuck" by those who knew him, he proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. On May 4, 1968, he married the love of his life, Mary Louise Murtaugh, and together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family.
Chuck dedicated 40 years to the U.S. Postal Service before retiring, though his hardworking nature led him to continue as an auto parts delivery driver for Pit Stop. A devoted member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, he was known for his jovial spirit, unwavering work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Buck was a proud supporter of his children’s activities and sports, often found cheering on the sidelines or sharing in their achievements. A lifelong fan of Chicago sports teams, he also loved spending time outdoors, tending to his yard with pride. Buck's infectious laughter, lighthearted jokes, and playful spirit brought joy to his grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary; his children, Kimberly Mae (Jason) Hintz and Brian Landis; his cherished grandchildren, Alivia and Gabriel Hintz, and Ryland Landis; his sister, Mary Keller; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Dorothy; two brothers; and three sisters.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 5pm until 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
