Charles H. Gilly - a lifelong resident of Barrington
Charles H. Gilly,89, passed away Friday, August 19,2011, at his home after a brief illness. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 E. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, at 12 p.m., September 7, 2011 at Barrington United Methodist Church. Interment will be private.
Charlie was born October 17,1921, in Elgin, to Daniel and Mary Gilly. He grew up on the family farm on Bradwell Road in Barrington, and lived in Barington all of his life.
He married his dear wife, Marge, on May 31,1952, in Palatine. They enjoyed traveling, card games and doing daily crossword puzzles together. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Charlie was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Barrington and of the American Legion and VFW. As the father of three sons, he served many years as a Little League coach.
Survivors include his children, Nancy (Fred) Voras of Barrington, Glenn of Schaumburg, Chuck (Jean) of Barrington, Gordon (Holly) of St. Joseph, IL, and Ellen (Tom) Johnson of McHenry; grandchildren, Jillian (Ryan) Carrell, Corinne (Michael) Baker, Jody (Brendan) Stafford, Kristy (Jason) Hart, Katie, Travis (Lauren), Erik, Ben, Merry and Sam Gilly, and PFC Derek (Misty) Johnson; great-grandchildren, William, Joshua, Madeline, Emily and Brayden; brothers, Earl and Daniel; and sisters, Velma Willis and MaryAnn Roesslein.
Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marge, on September 10, 2010; his parents; brother, Robert; and sisters, Alice Walker and Ethel Baresel.
