Charles Nelson

Charles Alfred Nelson, 99, of Mount Prospect, died Friday, December 26, 2014 in Crystal Lake.

He was born on May 31, 1915 to Charles and Carrie Amella (nee Tollefson) Knudson.

Charles is survived by his loving children, Charles J. (Kay) Nelson, Marisa Nelson-Braun, and Ross (Laurie) Nelson; grandchildren, Ross K. (Erica) Nelson, and Jenniffer (Edward) Rotchford; and great grandchildren, Dylan, Avery and Rylee Nelson, and Josephina, Hayla, and Emaline Rotchford.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kay; second wife of 58 years, Lois (nee Braun); brother, Stanford Peterson; sisters, Jean DeMar, and Louise Resland; his mother, Carrie Amella; father, Charles; and step-father, Nels Nelson.

He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison until entering the Army. He served as Captain in the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the "Red Diamond" 5th Division of Patton's Third Army in the European Campaign. He was overseas from 1942 to 1944. Upon returning to the States, he completed his College Degree at Northwestern. He was employed for over 35 years as an accountant for McDonnell & Miller, Inc., a boiler safety device manufacturing company.

He enjoyed playing golf, family vacations in Waupaca, Wisconsin and in retirement, researching family genealogy and his Norwegian heritage. He traveled to Norway numerous times to assist in his research of his ancestry.

His knowledge and humor will be sadly missed by his family.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 3pm until the time of service at 5pm, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake, IL 60014.

Burial will be held privately.
