Charles Eugene Stutler of Huntley, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2017 after a long and determined battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Charles was born on June 7, 1933 in Reynoldsville, WV, the son of Dorsey Allen and Cora Madge (nee Emmerson) Stutler.
He served proudly as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate in United States Navy. After his service he settled in Chicago, where he met and married the love of his life, Joan Catherine Leek.
In addition to his adoring wife, he will be remembered by his two daughters, Kathryn (David) Brink and Janet (Scott) Rudolph; his grandchildren, Charles (Whittney) Breault, Thomas (Ashley) Breault, William Breault, Dustin (Allison) Gabrielsen, Kristi and Jay Gabrielsen, Emma, Max and Allie Rudolph; great-grandchildren, Ruby Gabrielsen, Lilian Holmblad, and Amelia Breault.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Dorsey (Sophie) Stutler, Jr., Betty (Whitey) Schieve, Naomi Ingalls, and Juanita (Charles) Horan.
Charles owned and operated several HVAC installation and service companies. He mentored many in this occupation, and was proud to see them go on to establish their own businesses. Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Charles took a short break from business in his middle years to earn a degree in Liberal & Culinary Arts. Although he returned to his love for the service industry after his educational sabbatical, his newfound talent was instrumental in providing wonderful memories through the many fine meals he made for his family.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Charles, realize that he was a man of few words, with an easy smile and a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. May his generous spirit live on through them.
