Charles Veselits

Charles “Chuck” Veselits, 86, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his home in Crystal Lake. He was born on September 23, 1930 in Chicago to Joseph and Bertha (nee Wisler) Veselits.

Chuck was a graduate of St. Mel High School, class of 1948. He went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from DePaul University in 1952 and was a member of Phi Sigma Phi fraternity. After college, Chuck joined the Army and served during the Korean War, 1952-54, earning the rank of Corporal. In 1957, he completed his master’s in Accounting from DePaul and went on to work with Oxy-Dry until his retirement as vice president/treasurer from Selfix, Inc. in 1994. After retirement, Chuck volunteered for SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives), helping new businesses get their start. He was also a member of IHSA as an official for high school football and volleyball and coached girls’ softball. Chuck was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree. He was loved dearly and will be truly missed.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Carroll (nee Landeck) Veselits, whom he married on June 9, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Evanston; his children, Cathy (Jerry) Slovick, Chuck (Sue) Veselits, Cindy (Mark) Snodgrass, Craig (Margaret) Veselits, and Colleen (Greg) Fuchs; 17 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his sister, Marianne (the late Tom and the late Karl) Sobeski Mueller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Veselits; and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm, Friday, February 24, 2017 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL. Prayers will be said at 9:15am, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the funeral home followed by a procession to SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cary for a funeral mass at 10am. Entombment will take place at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
