Christa was born August 3, 1945 in the Czech Republic and fled to freedom in Germany. The Catholic Church in Germany brought her family to the United States after a six year wait and settled them in San Francisco, where Christa was raised. She passed away June 15, 2017 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Christa was a proud member of ROW, Recovery On Water in Chicago. ROW provides a vehicle for women who have survived breast cancer and can rehabilitate their physical and emotional lives after the devastation of this disease.
She is survived by her husband Douglas; step children, Renae (Scott) Burgess, David Roy (Stephanie) Cannon, and Arthur Douglas Cannon; grandchildren, Josh, Conor, Paige, Bailey, and Harley; and sister in law, Kay Sprinkel Grace. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and two brothers.
Visitation will begin at 2pm and continue until the time of the prayer service at 6pm, Saturday June 24 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook) Barrington. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, www.komenchicago.org; or to ROW, www.recoveryonwater.org; or to a leukemia or other cancer fighting organization of your choice.
