Christopher Coulon, 51, of Pewaukee, WI originally from Skokie, IL, passed away due to complications from Covid on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He was born on March 19, 1969 in Evanston, IL to Richard and Marilyn Coulon.

Known affectionately as Dad, Chris, Uncle Chris, Coulon, Uncle Coulon, Cooli, Uncle Cooli, Cool-Johns, Poindty, Uncle Poindty, Mr. Chris, Topher and Cool-Man, he is the loving father to Mae Coulon, son to Marilyn and the late Richard Coulon, brother to Terese Thompson (Tim) and Ann Marie Cecchin (Tony), uncle to Dan Cecchin (Emma), Ryan Thompson (Tiffany Liu), Kathryn Cecchin (Jeff O’Brien), Kenny Thompson, Christopher Cecchin and TJ Thompson, and cousin, nephew and friend to many.

Born and raised in Skokie, Chris attended Indiana University in Bloomington studying finance and real estate, and afterwards spent many years in Chicago and Roscoe Village. He later moved to Pewaukee where he spent some of his happiest years by the water, on his boat and in a home he loved and enjoyed renovating. Most importantly, he was thrilled to be close to his beloved daughter, Mae. She was his greatest love and he was her biggest cheerleader!

Chris had a fun spirit, a charming and magnetic personality and was the “cool” uncle and friend. He dreamed big, had a mischievous smile, was a deep thinker and a kind and sensitive soul. He was a huge Cubs fan, a lover of all things real estate, sports and music. An accomplished high school pole vaulter and track team captain, Chris always challenged himself to do better. He ran marathons, biked, climbed mountains, and of course, was always a part of the Coulon family handstand tradition. Chris loved designing and building, and always had some sort of home improvement plan sketched out. To relax, his neighbors talk of him sitting on his front porch playing his guitar, just chilling out.

Chris’ eyes lit up when you entered a room. He was excited to see you and hear about what adventures you were up to. He was a bright light, and his charisma was contagious. Chris had a deep, deep love for his daughter and family. Their successes were his. He was so proud! As one close friend said, “Chris has probably the biggest human spirit of anyone I’ve ever met.”

He had a lifetime of friends who loved him dearly, and whom he loved. From childhood and St. Peter’s grade school friends, Loyola Academy friends and Indiana University Hoosier friends and fraternity brothers. To him, their children were his nieces and nephews.

Chris overcame cancer twice and many health challenges over the years, and handled it with positivity and resilience. Rarely complaining, he was an inspiration to so many, a champion for those who had health journeys and often going to their bedsides to help in pivotal moments. Chris knew that a positive mindset and unconditional love could lead to amazing healing, and taught that to others. Chris connected with people at a deep level… he made them feel special, feel important… that was his GIFT. His impact is felt far and wide.

Chris’ oncologist, Dr. Leo Gordon, meant so much to him, having spent much of his health journey with Dr. Gordon by his side. Chris had the utmost trust in him. Dr. Gordon’s work and research, which will continue to help others, was so important to Chris. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Chris Coulon to support lymphoma research under the direction of Dr. Leo Gordon at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.  Please make checks payable to Northwestern University and mail to the attention of Terri Dillon, Northwestern University,  Gift and Record Services, 1201 Davis Street, Evanston, IL 60208, or you may donate online at: wewill.northwestern.edu/DrGordonLymphomaResearch .  When mailing your gift, or completing the gift online, please include that your gift is in memory of Chris Coulon.
